MasterClass - Creating Impact from Research
A two-day MasterClass on how research and ideas can be developed towards practical application and societal impact.

Last week, Auðna - TTO Iceland hosted a two-day MasterClass focused on how research can evolve towards utilization and create broader societal value. A total of fifteen participants from the University of Iceland, Reykjavík University, and Bifröst University took part in the course, which was held at Gróska in Reykjavík.
From Ideas to Impact
On the first day, participants learned about how knowledge and technology transfer can support the utilization of research results. Sessions also covered intellectual property rights, patents, and the importance of protecting new ideas properly. The day continued with a focus on value creation and business model development, where participants worked on their own projects using the Business Model Canvas, guided by experienced mentors. They also received practical training in communication and presentation skills, which proved valuable in preparing for their final pitches.
On the second day, participants gained insight from an entrepreneur’s experience emphasizing the importance of protecting intellectual property. This was followed by a session offering practical guidance on engaging with investors and navigating the fundraising process. Finally, various grant and funding opportunities available to researchers were presented.
At the end of the MasterClass, four teams pitched their projects to the group and received constructive feedback to support their future development work.
