MasterClass courses help participants put their research in context of social impact by reviewing the basic aspects of value creation of scientific results.
Audna TTO regularly organizes a two to three-day MasterClass courses for the university community, researchers and beneficiaries of research funds. Audna's MasterClass have been a hit in Iceland and attracted the attention of foreign universities.
During the courses, experts present and share their experience and knowledge; scientific entrepreneurs, business developers, consultants and investors. The uniqueness of scientific innovation and the basic elements of value creation from research results are reviewed. Intellectual property rights, funding channels and contracts are also covered, as well as milestones along the way and training for the introduction of the idea.
Research results and inventions based on them can make a difference in refining society. Research is an important source of innovation to tackle the big challenges, for example; social and health issues and energy, climate and sustainability issues. It is therefore important that research paves the way for social impact. Before the inventions or practical results of the scientific community can be used in society, there are many things to consider. The MasterClass course helps participants put their research in the context of social impact by reviewing the basic aspects of value creation of scientific results.
During the course, participants have the opportunity to work with their own research project and explore possibilities for innovation and social impact. The courses are intended for researchers, scientists, postdoctoral fellows and doctoral students as well as employees of universities and research institutes.
Among the topics covered in the Masterclass are business development from research, intellectual property rights and financing methods. The courses are intended for students, researchers, postdocs and doctoral students from the university and research environment.
At the end of each MasterClass course a survey is given to the participants, where they have the opportunity to review the course. The purpose of the survey is to help us get feedback on what has been done well and what could be better. At all the MasterClass that Auðna has held, the participants have said that the courses have met their expectations better, or much better than they expected.
"The lecture on intellectual property was particularly helpful and gave me insights that could be important for future projects. I also found connections with other members of the research community with very different backgrounds and interests particularly interesting and fun!"
"It was really valuable to work with the idea of turning research or ideas into something that has financial value. I've always felt that it's not relevant to research so I've always dismissed the business side - but of course it's very important and the course has opened my eyes to it."
"Very informative, the course was a good mix of presentations, team work, networking and good food. All discussions were interesting, perfect atmosphere created by all the presentations, it was a brilliantly great course."
"Meeting other researchers and learning about different projects. Thinking about different ways to have a (social) impact. It was also very interesting to think about the presentations."
"What I found most useful in the course were the lectures on intellectual property rights and on scientific innovation. It was also very interesting to learn more about the Business Model Canvas through the projects of other participants."
"The course was interesting and opened up new dimensions in thinking. The lectures were also very interesting and in a broad field. Then the workshop was very useful."
